Religous Movies

Well in the past 2 or 3 years there has been an upswing in the number of movies with religous messages. From the Passion of the Christ to this years movie The Da Vinci Code, there are many more movies with decidedly religous slants. The latest movie has casued a huge amount of conteraversy is The Da Vinci Code. Now I saw this movie about a week ago so I will not be offering commentary on the entire movie for that I recomoned pluggedin online a christian entertainment magazine. This link<http://www.pluggedinonline.com/movies/movies/a0002699.cfm> will take you to the review on Plugged in Online. This post is not a review of the movie but I will be talking about it.

First of all, I would like to say that many Christians don't believe what they say they beleive. When I was asking my friends if they would like to see the movie with me they all sounded horrified at the idea of seeing a movie that attacked Christianity. This revulsion at anything not christian brings my first two points. First of all, if you truly believe that Christianity is true it doesn't matter what anyone says it shouldn't raise any doubts in your mind and there should be holes in the arguments brought against it (which I'll get to later). Secondly, I remember when The Passion of the Christ came out, my church and school were encourageing everyone to go see it because it was such a good witness for Christianity. Which it is. But when somthing against Christianity comes out we aren't supposed to see it? If what we are being taught at church is true it should stand up to questioning. Also if we christians expect any non christians to listen to and respect christian things then it is important for us to respect and listen to their ideas. Many christians say that we should be intolerant to other religons. While yes we must not tolerate a dumbing down of scripture we must also respect others ideas or they will never respect ours.

Now on to the movie. In the movie and book the major plot centers around a supposed cover up of Jesus' humanity. In other words Jesus was a human who was said to be God. They say aslo that he was married to Mary Magnalene and had a child with her, and this child started the Sangreal or Holy Grail. This word sangreal can also be translated Holy blood. And this is the center of the movie. The evidence they use to back up their claims are three fold. They use the painting of the last supper by Leonardo Da Vinci, The Gospel according to Thomas, and the Gospel according to Mary. These are the major foundations for this myth. The problem is the painting by Da Vinci was painted about 1400 to 1500 years after the Last Supper. The two supposed gospels also have been dated to about 2-300 years after the last supper.

There are other problems in the Movie but I don't have any more time to write right now. So if you have seen the movie and have an opinion about the movie or what I have said please feel free to comment.

Nice to see a new post!

Let me emphisisze one thing that you said and add a little.

We, as Christians should respect other religions/ other ideas. The thing I want add is that respect and agreement are two different things. You can respect the way somone does somthing without agreeing that what he did was right. I head a really good sermon on this at the begining of the summer and can only remember bits of it, I need to talk to the pastor and get a refresher.

Anyway when you going to college man? email me.
