I love the fact that in the United States we have an entire day dedicated to love. You know what makes this day really ironic is that we celebrate this festival of love on the anniversary of one of the bloodiest massacres of peaceable people in the history of the world. Yes that's right, the St. Valentines Day Massacre is a real event. It was when the French government decided they no longer enjoyed the Huguenots (French Christian sect), and decided to either kill all of them or drive them all out of the country. At least 100,000 innocent civilians were slaughtered on the day of the feast of St. Valentine. Yes this might seem a bit of a depressing story on this day of "joy" and "happiness", but it always makes me happier to remember that even this holiday was not originally intended to remind those of us not in love how much of a loser we are. :-D Yes Vday is a bit of a down time in my life mainly because it just reminds me of the fact that I don't have a girlfriend, which is something that I don't really need to be reminded of with an entire day celebrating relationships and love.
Now I know that love and being in a relationship is not the most important thing in the world and that sometimes it can bring more problems than happiness. However, what it does is it leads me to be a very big party pooper. Tomorrow night The Shack is having a "Un-Valentines day 80's dance" to give those shackers without a significant other something to do. However, I am going through a serious debate of whether or not to go because it really is a useless waste of time to go dancing without someone to dance with, and because I'm an extremely awkward dancer, it's nice to have someone to dance with. So if I do end up going I'll most likely end up sitting on the couch until someone coerces me to dance with them, which I'll do until they inevitably leave to go dance with other people, at which point I'll just sit back down on the couch until someone attempts to get me to dance again. To top everything off I have to buy food to get in to the party, and I'm supposed to wear stereotypical "80s" garb. Yeah that ain't gonna happen in this lifetime, not b/c I don't want to look like a fool (I'm dressing up as a bunny tomorrow. Don't ask), but mainly because I don't own anything that looks like stereotypical "80s" garb and I don't have the money to spend on buying clothes. So yeah I'm really not looking forward to Vday. But, if I've learned one thing in life, it's that Life really doesn't care what you want it's gonna happen anyway so you might as well find something you enjoy in any and every situation, b/c it's probably not gonna change just because you want it to change.
Ok well I have to do my homework so I'm signing off, but maybe I'll give you an update tomorrow night after whatever I choose to do to celebrate this day.

...I think you should have joined the FB group about VDay, the same I joined. You'll see just how popular your opinion (and mine) really is. I also hate VDay for what it has become, this day of pidly excuses to tell one another we "love each other". I hate even more those blasted fools that proclaim from the highest towers that we should make known our love and affection every day of our lives. Besides the fact that doing so would quickly cheapen the very phrase and even the actions following, no one (very few at best) really means what they are saying when they make such general statemens as "I love you", "You're the one for me", "You complete me". Such utterances are blashpemous to human intelligence and amount to mere rote performance of actions expected of them. I say, to hell with Valentine's Day, back where it originated!
As for the dance, while it's obviously too late for any advice from me to make any difference whatsoever, I think you should go. Not to repeat a pathetic cycle of sitting/dancing which you would be just as able to do alone in your dorm room or relatively anywhere for that matter. No, you should go to see the infinite sea of other people in the same position you are in. Those hoping to be in love, to be close to someone, to enjoy that intimate connection that so many people wish for but never really quite obtain. Yes, see these people, realize what they are, realize the foolishness in it, and bring yourself above it. Use them as visual reminders that you can not and will not be subjected to such foolish, emotional trite that only the desperate believe and the weak require. Begin a new life, a life of self-satisfaction and self-reliance. That is why you should go, so that you will never have to entertain the idiocy of such mockery to social company in this life.
TJ You make me happy with your cynical ways. :-)
I do what I can, heh.
